Our Mission

Newtown Arts Company is dedicated to supporting the theatre arts in the heart of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. This mission is accomplished through the production of family-friendly live theatre, the granting of scholarships and the development of theatre arts education for area residents. Newtown Arts Company is committed to entertaining and moving audiences, as well as to offering an inclusive and inspiring creative experience to volunteers, both on stage and behind the scenes.

Founded in 1983, Newtown Arts Company currently presents six shows a year. The regular season includes an array of dramas, comedies and musicals from the classic to the contemporary. Since 2006 performances have been staged at the historic Newtown Theatre, the nation’s oldest movie house built in 1831. This beautiful classic theatrical venue enhances the audience experience.

Community

In addition to staging theatrical productions, Newtown Arts Company fosters an appreciation of and involvement in the performing and fine arts through channels including: Our Annual Scholarship Awards, a program that provides financial support for area students who are pursuing higher education in the performing or fine arts, based on an audition process and funded through a portion of the proceeds from our shows and other fundraising initiatives, the Bucks County Playhouse Student Theater Festival, an opportunity for area high school and middle school students to perform for their peers and receive valuable constructive feedback from experienced theater professionals, followed by an awards presentation, Stars of Tomorrow, a week long interactive session that teaches young people ages 6 to 14 all facets of putting on a show including acting, movement, music and technical stage crafts, culminating in an on-stage performance by participants, and performances by Newtown Arts Company members at area events including Newtown’s Welcome Day and First Fourth celebrations
